From “Just Looking” to “Welcome Home”: The Clayton Home Buying Process

Buying a new home is exciting—but it can also feel overwhelming when you’re not sure what happens next. At Clayton Homes of Albany, we’re here to guide you through every step of the journey, from your first visit to the day you walk into your new home.
1. Discover & Select Your Home
Start by touring our available homes and exploring different floor plans, features and styles. Once you find the home that fits your needs, we’ll help you select your home and complete the application and earnest money process.
2. Lender Decision & Site Visit
If you’re financing, your lender will typically provide a decision within 3–7 days. Around this stage, contractors can also complete a site visit to evaluate your property and begin determining what site preparation may be needed.
3. Appraisal, Closing & Down Payment
Your lender orders the required appraisal, and once financing requirements are satisfied, you’ll move toward closing and make your required down payment.
4. Permits & Construction
Once permits are approved, construction on your new home can begin! We’ll keep you informed as your home progresses through the process.
5. Delivery & Setup
This is when it starts to feel real. Your home is delivered to your property and set, followed by any required inspections and completion of site-related work.
6. Final Walkthrough & Welcome Home
Before the process is complete, we’ll conduct a final walkthrough so you can see your finished home and review important details.
Then comes the best part: Welcome home!
